Westchester, NY (I-Newswire) October 16, 2012 - Teich Garden Systems LLC announced today the completion of a new outdoor garden classroom at the KING School in Stamford, CT. The garden installation was part of the beautification and redesign project at the Lower School Playground Project handled by Wesley Stout Associates of New Canaan CT. The 512 square foot garden includes a paved area that provides universal access and can accommodate students for garden demonstrations and classes.
Wesley Stout whose firm managed the project stated "This new garden is really fantastic. We are extremely pleased with the process, product and support services provided by Teich Garden Systems. We are seeing a significant trend toward local food production and the education of healthy living along with what is being called "urban gardening". Beginning that education early in a child's life through projects like the garden at KING school is a truly rewarding experience. Judging from numerous compliments and the kids' beaming smiles, this garden looks to be a great resource."
A planting day was held on September 21st with TGS’s Garden Event Leader, Brian Carney, providing an educational and entertaining gardening experience for the students and staff. Students planted lettuce, bok choy, kale, Swiss chard and beans. The crop is expected to be harvested and enjoyed by the students later this Fall.
KING Science Teacher Elisabeth Pavlowsky stated “We want each student to feel a part of this community garden. I also want each student to learn how to organize and plant a garden, how to care for a garden, and to learn the benefits of healthy food choices. The learning opportunities surrounding this garden are endless!”
Mark Teich, founder of TGS, noted, “We are thrilled to have been selected by Wesley Stout Associates to design and build the garden system at the KING and to participate in their planting day. Ms. Pavlowsky and the entire KING team were a pleasure to work with. The low-maintenance features of our system will enable teachers and students to focus their energies on the joys of gardening and what the gardening experience can teach rather than garden upkeep. We welcome the KING, its faculty and students to the growing community of TGS Gardeners.”
