UMG-Green Helps Denver Public Schools Replace Plastic Trays with Biodegradable Trays

UMG-Green has partnered with the Denver Public School District to replace all plastic disposable school lunch trays with biodegradable five compartment lunch trays.

Denver, Colorado (I-Newswire) December 2, 2010 - Colorado based United Management Group (UMG) have just completed a very successful pilot study where they developed a biodegradable replacement for plastic trays. This resulted in UMG supplying over 4 million biodegradable five compartment food trays to Denver Public Schools. DPS currently serves over 46,000 lunches a day.

As far as the students are concerned they don’t notice a difference. The products offered through UMG are so similar in look and design that it is hard for students to tell them apart.

Says August Dennig, Owner and President of UMG- Green, "our objective is to simply take as much oil as possible out of plastics and reduce the size of landfill. We replace non-sustainable (non-renewable) products with sustainable bioplastics. We are committed to helping replace petroleum based plastics, styrofoam and paper wherever possible. At UMG, we’re dedicated to providing affordable, durable, biodegradable solutions for responsible organizations.”

These trays are designed to look like their conventional plastic counterparts, but are composed of organic materials that make a positive difference to the long-term impact on the environment and future residents of our planet. The trays are water resistant, withstand temperatures up to 248 degrees Fahrenheit and will never breakdown in transit or in use. The best news is that they will decompose within 360 days in landfill!

After the success of this pilot study, UMG is now hoping to find other schools and businesses to consider replacing their plastic trays with an environmentally friendly biodegradable tray as well.
