Reid: No Choice But To Start Vick - UPI.com

Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid said Michael Vick was "possibly the hottest quarterback" in the NFL and would be his starter for the immediate future.

(I-Newswire) September 30, 2010 - Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid said Michael Vick was "possibly the hottest quarterback" in the NFL and would be his starter for the immediate future.

"This is about Michael Vick and his accelerated play," Reid told reporters Tuesday. "He's sitting there as possibly the hottest quarterback in the National Football League at this time and deserves an opportunity to play."

The Eagles play Jacksonville Sunday.

Vick came off the bench Sunday after starter Kevin Kolb was knocked out of action and led the Eagles to a 35-32 win over Detroit. Vick threw for 284 and two touchdowns in the victory.

"I think very few quarterbacks can go out and play the way he played the last couple of weeks," said Reid, adding, "He's one of the top third-down throwers in the National Football League right now, and that helps this football team win games."

Reid said he had the support of the Eagles front office in his decision. He had high praise for Kolb, whom he had named the starting quarterback during training camp. He indicated Kolb's injury was not serious and the Eagles had no plans to trade him.
