50,000 GlobalWave Customers Migrate to Inmarsat Network

SkyWave successfully transfers data subscribers to Inmarsat’s newest generation of satellites.

(I-Newswire) October 14, 2009 - Ottawa, Canada – October 14, 2009 - SkyWave Mobile Communications (“SkyWave”), a global provider of two-way satellite products and services, is pleased to announce that all of its GlobalWave North American customers are now using the Inmarsat network for their satellite-based asset tracking, monitoring and control applications.

Over 50,000 active GlobalWave MT series terminals operating in Canada, United States and Mexico have been successfully transferred to the Inmarsat-4 Americas satellite. The migration means that GlobalWave customers can continue to grow their business with confidence knowing their satellite data service is secure well into the future.

Inmarsat, which operates the only fully-funded next-generation network for Mobile Satellite Services (MSS), was recognized by satellite industry experts as MSS Operator of the Year for 2009 at the World Satellite Business Week.

“We are very pleased with the transition” said Tom Blackwell, VP Technical Operations at SkyWave. “With the Inmarsat service, GlobalWave customers can now enjoy global coverage and enhanced signal quality, which translates to even greater performance and reliability.”

Leo Mondale, Vice President of Business Development & Strategy at Inmarsat said. “We welcome the 50,000 GlobalWave North American customers to the I-4 satellite constellation. Their business is now supported by the world’s most advanced mobile satellite network with an assured service into the 2020s.”

The GlobalWave MT series portfolio of products includes the MT3550, which is designed for any fixed or mobile asset tracking and monitoring application; the MT3400, a satellite terminal with integrated, field-replaceable batteries that is optimized for trailer and container tracking; the MT3000, a satellite terminal with an on-board computer for creating sophisticated tracking and monitoring applications; and the Core Modem Plus, an OEM satellite terminal for integration into existing products or systems. All GlobalWave MT series satellite terminals use a proprietary GPS receiver which offers unprecedented ultra-low power consumption for extended battery life in untethered M2M applications.
