2 New Haven Photographers Giving Back In Surat, India Gain Interest From Mayor, Local Press

2 New Haven, Connecticut based photographers have traveled to Surat, India to give portraits to 450 disabled school children in the Disabled Welfare Trust of India schools have been asked to meet with the major and local press.

Two photographers from New Haven have begun their excursion to give something to the children of the Disabled Welfare Trust of India (DWTI). The organization focuses on giving disabled children a fair and equal education. DWIT works to assure equal opportnity in education for all handicapped children while providing special services to meet the needs of these children. They also work towards giving these children the equipment and supplies they need to live a fullfilled life such as brances, physical therapy, walkers, hearing aids, wheel chairs, eyeglasses, and even surgeries. The disabilities that DWTI deals with includes Blind, Deaf, Amputees, and children with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Spastic Quadriplegia, Encephalitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spina Bifida, Down's Syndrome, and other disabilities who all receive assistance.

On Tuesday, January 17th Matt Branscombe and Mike Ciarliglio of BSC Photo will be traveling to the school to take pictures of each of the 450 students who have never had a picture of themselves given to them. They will be taking professional portraits of hope, not poverty and despair and giving each child a printed copy to have with them forever. Over the coarse of the last two days, however, the photographers have had a chance to meet with the principal of the school as well as partook in the evening prayer with some of the girls from the school and tomorrow will be greeted by the mayor and local press organizations.
